Bleach Festival Gold Coast 2021
From Neglect to Neon: Amy Gale Studio's Festival Hub Transformation
Everyone wants to come! Successful Placemaking through art experiences
In the heart of the Gold Coast, a neglected development site awaited revival. Amy Gale Studio was engaged to work with the team at Placemakers for the transformation of this barren canvas into a vibrant festival hub that would host the iconic Bleach Festival.
A Metamorphosis of Vision
What was once an eyesore on the urban landscape was about to become a dynamic and immersive experience to transform into the pulsating heart of Bleach Festival.
From Drab to Dynamic
The facades of the four vacant houses took on new life as they transformed into canvases for a plethora of talented artists and creative groups. The houses morphed from vacant structures into captivating works of art, standing as testaments to the power of creativity and vision.
Stages Amidst Surprises
Balconies, garages, and courtyards became stages for installations. The central vacant lot, previously a sea of emptiness, now welcomed festivalgoers to bask in itβs beauty. Here, a festival club emerged, with a nod to the history of mid-century Gold Coast holidaying. Against the backdrop of Surfers Paradise's skyline, an open-air festival club came to life. Every evening, a curated blend of cabaret and club entertainment, courtesy of Bleach Festival, invited guests to immerse themselves in the rhythmic heartbeat of Gold Coast creativity.
Creating a Sense of Belonging
What was once deemed an eyesore had morphed into a hub of artistic wonder β it drew a diverse audience, spanning across age groups and communities. This festival hub became the epicenter for two exhilarating weeks, and had been redefined as the ultimate place to be.
The festival hub had become more than just an event venue; it had become a symbol of placemaking at its finest. The community urged for its continuation and its utilisation for future events.
